Join Making The Grade in Making a Difference

At the heart of this program is the creation of a safe, nurturing home — a family-like

environment where young women not only find shelter but also the care, mentorship, and

opportunities they need to thrive. Implemented by Chosen Generation with support

from Making the Grade: Hope for African Youth, the project integrates housing,

education, healthcare, and leadership development into a holistic journey of

transformation.

Our Mission

To break cycles of poverty and inequality by equipping vulnerable young women with the

skills, resources, and confidence to become independent leaders and agents of change —

building on the legacy of Gojjo, Yeneta, and Esther Projects.

What We Do

  • Safe Housing (Gojjo): Secure, fully furnished homes that provide safety, stability, and a family-like environment.
  • Education Support (Yeneta): Scholarships, tutoring, and academic mentorship to unlock academic excellence.
  • Empowerment Training (Esther): Leadership, financial literacy, and advocacy workshops to build confidence and voice.
  • Healthcare Services: Comprehensive medical care, counseling, and wellness programs.
  • Career Development: Internships, job placements, and seed funding for entrepreneurship.
  • Alumni Network : A growing community of graduates committed to mentoring and community projects.

Why It Matters

In Ethiopia, only 30% of young women complete secondary education, and many face

barriers such as poverty, lack of safe housing, and social pressures. By combining the

strengths of Gojjo, Yeneta, and Esther, this project provides a holistic solution that

nurtures dignity, independence, and leadership in the next generation of women.

Feven is a quiet yet determined young girl with a heart full of responsibility. She lives in Bishoftu with her single mother, Abeba, who recently gave birth to Feven’s baby sister. With no job to provide for the family, Abeba’s struggle was recognized by local authorities, who reached out to us for support. Scoring an impressive 98.66% on the

national exam, Feven is now a Grade 9 student with dreams of becoming a doctor. Her vision is not just for herself but for her community, ensuring access to quality healthcare for those in need. Though soft-spoken, Feven’s determination speaks loudly—she refuses

to settle for less than a brighter future for her family.

Mihiret grew up at Selam Children’s Village, where she learned to persevere despite the hardships of losing her parents. Living with epilepsy and health challenges, she has faced more struggles than most her age, yet her spirit remains unshaken. She dreams of building

independence by learning practical skills like videography, editing, and marketing—skills that will allow her to stand strong on her own. For Mihiret, this opportunity is not just about education but about creating long-term stability and dignity for her life. Her quiet courage and resilience reflect the best of Selam’s legacy—transforming pain into purpose.

Rediet’s story is one of strength and hope. Having grown up at Selam Children’s Village after losing her parents, she has been shaped by both hardship and opportunity. Outspoken and confident, she dreams of becoming a psychiatrist while also pursuing her passion for basketball. Rediet believes this program is a bridge to her dreams, aligning her passion with purpose. Her determination to succeed, despite life’s challenges, shines through in everything she does—she is proof that with support and vision, a young woman can rise above loss and inspire others along the way.

Betselot grew up at Selam Children’s Village, where she developed both resilience and a deep sense of justice. Orphaned at a young age, she has long carried the dream of becoming a lawyer—someone who can stand up for the voiceless and ensure fairness for those without it. Having completed high school, she is now ready to take the next step

toward her future. Betselot’s commitment is unwavering, and she sees this program as the support she needs to transform her dream into reality. With determination in her eyes and courage in her heart, she is ready to use her voice for change.
