Currently 73 students are studying and attending school from primary education through university through Making the Grade. We provide supplies, tuition and tutoring. We also sponsor a program for the blind in Soddo. This MTG program, set up by one of our graduates, Aschalew Chupa, provides Braille supplies, uniforms and various other school supplies for a large group of students . We are proud to announce that every MTG sponsored student that took their national exam passed, with an additional 6 students proudly graduating to high school!
In 2021, MTG spearheaded a new project addressing the issues female students often face. We are focusing our efforts to teaching groups of young women the skills of entrepreneurship, self-confidence, sexual assault prevention and the skills necessary to obtain and maintain careers.
This project serves to provide suitable sanitation infrastructure for the visually impaired students at the Ligeba Beyene school in Soddo.. It will provide sustainable shower service for visually impaired students as well as create a platform for income generation for our children.
Gojjo project provides our students with housing and as well as fulfills our students other basic needs. By providing a safe space to live, students can focus on completing their education without the immense distraction of finding shelter, food and sanitation. Health care is also addressed.
What began as a thoughtful way to help children living on the streets has blossomed into one of our most successful programs! Every year MTG and volunteers bring countless donated suitcases filled with school supplies and clothing that we distribute to the orphaned children living on the streets.
Making the Grade partnered with MCN Build to build and maintain a digital school and library outside of Lalibela, Ethiopia. Each computer is loaded with 16,000 books. This year we are bringing fiber optic cable up to the library to allow internet access.
